Cambodia’s daily COVID case total remains low after Health Ministry admits discrepancies in provincial totals reporting

After the Health Ministry revealed to Khmer Times last night that it’s daily COVID case figures were not accurate – as they do not include provincial totals submitted after 6pm – daily official totals were again lower than expected.

Health Ministry spokesman Hok Kim Cheng told Khmer Times yesterday that the reason for the discrepancy in the tally is due to a time lapse in obtaining figures from the provinces.

“We are aware of this and are trying to find ways to provide the accurate daily figures,” he said.

Oddar Meanchey Provincial Health Director Klouk Huot told Khmer Times that the number of cases are reported to the Ministry of Health at 6pm daily, so if the authorities detect more cases later than that, it will not be included in the ministry’s figures.

Khmer Times has been pointing out the discrepancy between national and individual case figures since the reopening of the Thai border on August the 13th.

Today’s official daily new COVID case total was therefore again lower than provincial totals would suggest with Cambodia announcing an official daily new cases total of 423, bringing the COVID case total to 90,958 cases.
