Low daily case totals again – but high ‘Delta’ figures spell bad news for Cambodia

The official daily new COVID case total was again lower than provincial totals would suggest – and the announcement of another 326 ‘Delta’ variant cases detected – with over 100 in Phnom Penh – has cast a shadow over the low daily figures.

Cambodia today announced an official daily new cases total of 428, bringing the COVID case total to 90,535 cases.

The total number of Community Cases is now 76,023 with 14,512 cases being imported.

117 imported cases were announced today as imported case numbers continue to be higher as a consequence of the Thai border reopening last week.

Provincial cases and ‘Delta’ cases continue to rise – despite low official national figures  – and the provinces – and especially the 8 provinces bordering Thailand – are at the vanguard of Cambodia’s fight against COVID.

News just released that 326 more ‘Delta’ cases have been detected in Cambodia – with over 100 cases in Phnom Penh  – shows that ‘Delta’ is posing an increasing threat.

There is continued confusion over the provincial figures – with individual provincial totals seemingly not correlating to the national totals announced daily.

A simple summing of provided provincial figures seems to indicate a daily figure substantially higher than the official national total.
