Cases numbers again around 550 mark – but recent reports from provinces indicate numbers may soon be significantly higher

Official daily COVID case numbers were once again in the 500-600 mark – however massive numbers being reported from the provinces – especially Banteay Meanchey province –  indicates that case numbers may soon be significantly higher.

Cambodia today announced an official daily new cases total of 533, bringing the COVID case total to 87,723 cases.

The total number of Community Cases is now 74,104 with 13,619 cases being imported.

145 imported cases were announced today as imported case numbers rose again as a consequence of the Thai border reopening last week.

Provincial cases continue to rise, showing that the provinces – and especially the 8 provinces bordering Thailand – are at the vanguard of Cambodia’s fight against COVID.

Banteay Meanchey province, in particular, is currently experiencing a ‘surge’ in COVID cases – with news just in that 601 new COVID cases have been found at a drug addiction treatment centre in the province – indicating that a major surge of new cases is on it’s way.

The news that the Delta Variant of SARS-CoV-2 virus has infected more than 700 in Cambodia as of August 17 shows that ‘Delta’ is alive and thriving in Cambodia, both in border provinces and the country as a whole.
