Higher daily cases again for Cambodia – but country’s outlook is boosted by drop in active cases and success of vaccination campaign

Daily COVID case numbers were again relatively higher in Cambodia due to the reopening of borders on Friday – but there was much good news amongst the ‘Delta’ fears.

Cambodia today announced a daily new cases total of 593, bringing the COVID case total to 87190 cases.

The total number of Community Cases is now 73,716 with 13,474 cases being imported.

189 imported cases were announced today as numbers rose again as a consequence of the Thai border was reopening on Friday the 13th of August

Imported cases are are now the main concern for Cambodia – bringing with them the threat of the ‘Delta’ variant crossing over the border from Thailand and then moving into the community.

News just reported that Stung Treng City has been blocked after discovery of Delta Variant cases shows that ‘Delta’ is alive and thriving in Cambodia, both in border provinces and the country as  a whole.

Reports of new Delta cases in Kampong Thom, Banteay Meanchey and Battambang may well just be the tip of the ‘Delta’ iceberg – only three provinces have not reported the ‘Delta’ mutation of the COVID virus so far and it is expected that many more cases will be announced over the next few days.
