Daily COVID case numbers went up for the 3rd day in Cambodia as the reopening of borders on Friday meant an end to the drop in cases that The Kingdom has seen in the last 2 weeks.
Cambodia today announced a daily new cases total of 593, bringing the COVID case total to 86,041 cases.
The total number of Community Cases is now 72,923 with 13,118 cases being imported.
236 imported cases were announced today – the highest number since borders reopened – and that number is expected to significantly rise over the coming days now that borders have reopened.
These imported cases are causing massive concern for The Kingdom – bringing with them the threat of the ‘Delta’ variant crossing over the border from Thailand and then moving into the community.
News that there is now a 20% positive COVID-19 rate for returning migrant workers in Banteay Meanchey province indicates that Cambodia could be facing an imported cases ‘explosion’ in the next few days.
