Raising chickens well is key to food security for poor farmers

Minister of Agriculture Veng Sakhon yesterday visited participants in a pilot project to research the best ways to raise chickens in order to promote food security.

The project was funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and implemented by the General Department of Animal Health and Production, he said.

The project, “Food Security for Poor Farmers – Improving Local Chicken Breeds and Improving Productivity through Demonstrations in the Context of Climate Change in Cambodia”, aims to improve local livestock productivity.

Sakhon said that the first phase was from 2016-2018 and the second phase in 2020-2021 was implemented in the three target provinces of Takeo, Tboung Khmum and Kampong Chhnang.
